Discover the many sides of Uganda
Uganda offers a safari with a distinctive balance of forest and open country. Mountain gorilla experiences in the southwest can be paired with Queen Elizabeth’s game drives, the Kazinga Channel and restful time around Lake Bunyonyi. The country rewards travellers who leave room for changing road conditions and varied terrain, allowing forest walks and wildlife encounters to unfold at a comfortable pace.

Uganda’s top wildlife & forest destinations
Six highlights to inspire your Uganda itinerary. Choose the places and experiences that suit your interests and travel dates.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Bwindi’s forested hills are a central destination for mountain gorilla trekking. Walk with authorised ranger guides through changing forest terrain to reach a habituated family. The experience requires advance planning, a suitable permit and realistic expectations about walking conditions.
Queen Elizabeth National Park
Queen Elizabeth combines open savannah, crater scenery and waterways in western Uganda. Game drives can be paired with a boat excursion, creating varied ways to explore its wildlife. The Ishasha sector is associated with tree-climbing lions, although sightings always depend on the animals.
Kazinga Channel
The Kazinga Channel links Lake Edward and Lake George within Queen Elizabeth National Park. A boat excursion offers a different viewpoint on wildlife along the banks, including hippos, waterbirds and animals coming to drink. It is an appealing counterpoint to time spent in a safari vehicle.
Lake Bunyonyi
Surrounded by cultivated hills and scattered islands, Lake Bunyonyi provides a quieter pause after a gorilla trek. Enjoy the views from your lodge, arrange a guided boat outing or explore nearby communities with a local guide. An extra night here helps soften a route with longer road transfers.
Kibale National Park
Kibale is a key destination for travellers interested in chimpanzee tracking and forest ecology. Guided walks bring attention to primates, birdlife and the smaller details of the forest. Add it to a longer Uganda route with enough time for the transfer and a confirmed activity booking.
Â
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Mgahinga lies in Uganda’s southwestern volcanic highlands and offers another setting for a primate-focused journey. Gorilla and golden monkey experiences depend on the activity available and advance arrangements. Its mountain scenery makes it particularly appealing for travellers who enjoy guided walking.

Your Uganda safari questions
Practical answers before you choose a route. Our team can help with the details specific to your trip.
How do I arrange gorilla trekking?
A gorilla trekking permit and the correct trekking sector must be coordinated with your accommodation and route. Share your dates early so availability can be checked before the rest of the journey is confirmed.
How physically demanding is a forest trek?
Walking conditions vary with weather, terrain and the animals’ location. Some treks are longer or steeper than others. Tell us about your mobility and fitness so we can discuss suitable planning and support.
Can I combine gorillas and a wildlife safari?
Yes. The existing five-day Uganda itinerary combines Bwindi with Queen Elizabeth National Park. A longer journey allows a gentler pace or additional forest and lakeside stops.
How many days should I spend in Uganda?
A short trip can focus on gorilla trekking, while a week or longer allows more variety and fewer rushed transfers. Choose extra time if you want to combine several regions.
When should I book?
Start planning as early as possible when gorilla trekking is a priority, because permit availability can shape the whole itinerary. Accommodation and transport should be confirmed around your activity bookings.
