The Tsavo parks together form the largest protected area in Kenya, and this three day private lodge safari takes in both halves. Tsavo East is open, arid and red, famous for its enormous herds of dust coloured elephants and for the man eating lions that halted construction of the Uganda railway in 1898. Tsavo West is greener and more broken, with volcanic hills and a very different feel.
The Tsavo West day includes an afternoon at the rhino sanctuary and a morning visit to Mzima Springs, where fifty million gallons of crystal clear water surface daily and an underwater viewing chamber lets you watch hippo and barbel fish beneath the surface. As a private departure, timings flex around you. Park entrance fees, accommodation, all meals on safari, mineral water and transfers are included, and the safari can start from Nairobi or Mombasa.
