The most varied of our cross-border itineraries, because it pairs the headline game parks with the freshwater lakes and gorges of the Rift Valley. Two nights in the Maasai Mara open the trip, then Lake Nakuru for the rhino and the birds, then Lake Naivasha and Hell’s Gate, where red cliffs, volcanic plugs and hot springs can be walked or cycled. It is one of the few places in Kenya where you are allowed out of the vehicle.
From Amboseli beneath Kilimanjaro the route crosses at Namanga into Tanzania for Lake Manyara, the Serengeti and finally the Ngorongoro Crater. You travel as a small group in a 4×4 Land Cruiser with a hatch roof, which is what keeps the price down; park entrance fees, accommodation, all meals on safari and a professional English-speaking guide stay included throughout.
