Kenya’s great elephant park paired with the two most hands-on days available in the Rift Valley, which is what makes this one work for families with older children. You open with two nights in Amboseli, where the herds move across open swamp with Kilimanjaro filling the horizon on clear mornings.
Then north to Lake Naivasha and a boat out to Crescent Island, where you can walk among giraffe, zebra and antelope because there are no large predators on it. A day at Hell’s Gate follows, with the option to cycle or walk the gorge between red cliffs and past the volcanic plugs of Fischer’s Tower and Central Tower, and a swim at the Olkaria Geothermal Spa, a large pool heated by steam from underground. Park fees, all meals, drinking water and transfers are included.
